Data Migration

Clean, map, transfer, and validate operational data when moving from legacy systems to a modern platform.

Overview

Data Migration prepares and transfers the records required to begin operating confidently in Odoo or another approved target platform. Depending on the project, this may include master data, opening balances, open transactions, inventory quantities, documents, historical records, or selected reference information.

Migration is not a simple export-and-import exercise. Legacy systems often use different structures, identifiers, units, tax logic, account mappings, or data-quality standards. The organization must decide what information is operationally necessary, what should be cleaned, what can be archived, and who is responsible for validating the result.

We treat migration as a controlled and repeatable workstream connected to the implementation cutover. The objective is not to move every available record, but to provide accurate, traceable, and usable data that supports the agreed start of operations in the new environment.

Business challenge

Legacy records are commonly incomplete, duplicated, inconsistently coded, or structured differently from the target system. Moving everything without ownership and validation creates operational and reporting risk.

How Nikset helps

Nikset works with data owners to define migration scope, source systems, extraction responsibilities, target structures, retention decisions, and acceptance criteria. We profile representative data to identify duplicates, missing values, invalid references, inconsistent coding, and other issues that could affect the target process.

We document mapping and transformation rules, prepare controlled import procedures or reusable scripts, and run test migrations before cutover. Each cycle is reviewed against reconciliation totals, exception reports, and business scenarios so that problems are corrected before production data is loaded.

During cutover, we coordinate the final extraction, transformation, import, and validation sequence with the implementation team. After loading, responsible users confirm balances, quantities, open documents, relationships, and sample records, creating a clear audit trail for acceptance.

Expected outcomes

  • Cleaner and more reliable opening data
  • A traceable transition from legacy records
  • Reduced disruption during ERP cutover
